GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

INTRODUCTION

The international scientific community is now almost unanimous about the reality of climate change especially the increase in average temperature at Earth's surface and extreme events with significant consequences. Similarly, all the new studies indicate that Africa is the continent most vulnerable to climate variability and climate change due to many stresses to which it is submitted and its low capacity of adaptation. In fact, adaptation strategies to climate variability are being implemented, but they may prove inadequate for future climate change (IPCC, 2007). Thus, climate change really challenges to Sahelian communities particularly their survival in a fragile environment and rapidly changing.
Obviously, the question of adaptability to climate change is fundamental, but it should not overshadow the matter of the vulnerability of natural and human systems and the intensity changes that must be understood on the one hand but also especially the issue of access to information. To cope with this problem, local and national actors must become aware of the phenomenon, monitor changes reality on the ground and have strategies for adaptation and anticipation. The topic of this colloquium, "Adaptation to climate change: Strategies for exchange and sharing of information for the benefit of communities?" responds to the fact that having good information is central in providing appropriate solutions to the problems of adaptation to climate change. The issue of sharing knowledge is very important for innovation and decision-making. This colloquium will present a platform for exchanging information and experiences on strategies for information sharing and the implementation of adaptation strategies for climate change. It is organized in the framework of the InfoClim project "participative information platform for the adaptation of vulnerable communities to climate change” with financial support of IDRC and DFID within Climate Change Adaptation in Africa Program (CCAA).
Emphasis will be placed on emerging issues such as: "the sharing of information in the management of extreme events and natural disasters, " the use and dissemination of information: what are the roles and expectations of communities? ", "the flow of information towards or coming from researchers for one hand and towards or coming from decision-makers on the other hand.
The Symposium will include an introductory plenary session and thematic sections relating to subjects such as: the state of knowledge on climate change; which information for adaptation to climate change at the local level; roles of media in information dissemination; gender and climate change; endogenous knowledge and climate crisis management: validity and strategies for disseminating information; sharing experiences of multi-actors information platforms.
